P1: Genetic Control and Environmental Adaptation of Maize Root Formation

Understanding of the alteration of root morphology and root system architecture during domestication and improvement of maize will pave the way to target root traits in crop breeding programs.

P2: Root Branching and Its Biotic Interaction with Soil Microbes in Maize

We perform tissue/cell type-specific transcriptome and microbiome analyses assisted by tissue separation and laser capture microdissection (LCM) to understand the influence of root hairs and lateral roots formation on root-microbe interaction in maize.

P3: Genetic Control and Nutrient-dependency of Root-microbe Interaction in Maize

This project aims to obtain a mechanistic understanding of the interplay of genetic control and soil nutrient availability in root-microbe interaction.

P4: Co-adaptation of Maize Roots and Inhabiting Microbes under Environmental Stresses

Understanding of how adaptive traits progressed between root and soil microbes under extreme environments enables to identify the genetic basis of crop improvement on root system.
